I am quiet at first. Then I start asking questions.

I am usually quiet when I first meet someone. Mostly I am paying attention. Once we find something interesting to talk about, that changes quickly.

During the week, I work in technology on US hours. Outside work, I go through phases of getting completely absorbed in things: AI, ethics, science fiction, futurism, social dynamics, and lately guitar. My fingers hurt, and singing while playing is much harder than it looks.

I like people who are genuinely excited about something, especially if they are happy to explain it to me. I am affectionate, observant, and very willing to disagree with you.

Tell me what you are obsessed with. I will have questions.

At the moment I am reading There Is No Antimemetics Division and Sophie's World. Some of my favorites are Ender's Game, Flowers for Algernon, and Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. I also play Age of Empires II, casually and not especially well.

The first book I ever read was Agatha Christie's Evil Under the Sun. I have loved detective stories ever since.

I enjoy arguing about ethics, especially when there is no easy answer and both sides rest on strong, conflicting intuitions. I also like hiking, dancing, games, and listening to someone explain the thing they know far too much about.
